People who are depressed know how hard it is to be healthy physically. Thankfully there are lots of things that you can do to work on and improve your health both mentally and emotionally. If you put certain things into practice, your mental and emotion conditions can be improved.

Make sure you get enough sleep each night. The magic number, in order to have a healthy body and mind, is eight hours of sleep. You, however, might do better on six or seven or need as many as nine. Finding the magic number for you personally will take some experimentation, and maybe help from mental and physical health professionals. When you know the right amount of hours, that's how many you should get every night, and you should take steps to get than many. When you have a full night's sleep, you will be amazed at how much better you will feel, not just physically, but emotionally as well.

Be positive and find the beauty in life. If you will take some time each day to walk through a park or a garden, your serotonin levels will be raised up in your brain, and your blood pressure will become lower. This is the physical response that leads to you feeling emotionally better. Every day you can surround yourself with positive people and things, and admire the beauty of situations, and it will only have a positive effect. If you need to raise your mood, find something beautiful to inspire you. Only you can choose what is beautiful to you. It's okay to not have the same response to a piece of art as someone else. It is okay to like something different from others.

Direct sunlight is needed by the body and you should get some every day. For the benefit of your mental health, you need direct sunlight every day, which should be as important to you as preventing cancer by not going out into direct sunlight. To help your depression, find more time to be out in the sunshine. Get some sunscreen, put it on, and lay out in the sun for a while. If all you can do is spend fifteen minutes each day that is better than not at all. The nice thing is that you can get your daily dose of sunlight while you do other things-like exercising, spending time with friends, etc. On the days you can't find any sunlight, use a UV sunlight lamp, or even go to a tanning booth.
